What was the challenge for Derby City Council?
To help equip leaders in the Adults, Health and Housing Directorate for this challenge, the Directorate Leadership Team commissioned a year-long learning and development programme called “Leading in Challenging Times”, comprising a mixture of theoretical input, self-awareness, coaching, mentoring and action learning sets.
How important was it to create a strategic partnership with the provider of your solution?
It is well known that cuts in the public sector have left many organisations with financial challenges and at DCC we are no different. It was therefore key that the provider of any leadership development for us was able to understand our situation, interpret it and deliver the learning accordingly, empathising with the on-going changes and challenges that we face.

As a local authority it is vital that any organisation that we work with shares our values and understands the context in which we work.
